Legislative Committee

The NCPTA legislative committee's is extremely active throughout the year —analyzing, monitoring and recommending action and positions on state and federal initiatives that impact public transportation policy and funding. After thorough examination by the committee, action and recommendation on priorities are presented to the NCPTA Board and membership for approval.

Objectives:

  • Meeting with DOT leadership and staff to discuss legislative and policy initiatives prior to the State General Assembly session.
  • Serving as a liaison to DOT on NCPTA's legislative and policy initiatives.
  • Organizing and participating in NCPTA's annual legislative trip to Washington, D.C.
  • Organizing the State Legislative Breakfast and Advocacy Day.
  • Analysis of data and legislative proposals.
  • Disseminate legislative alerts, events and activities.
  • Work with other organizations to seek broad based support for all public transportation initiatives.
  • Prepare legislative materials for advocacy purposes.
  • Recommending candidates to the NCPTA Board for Legislator of the Year Award(s).
  • Monitoring federal legislation, funding and policy initiatives that affect public transportation systems in North Carolina.
