Description and Responsibilities:The NCPTA legislative committee's primary purpose is to identify and recommend legislative initiatives and funding priorities to the NCPTA Board and membership for approval. The committee is also responsible for ensuring that the recommendations, once approved, are effectively implemented. Other responsibilities include:
- Directing the work of the lobbyist.
- Meeting with DOT leadership and staff to discuss legislative and policy initiatives prior to the General Assembly session.
- Serving as a liaison to DOT on NCPTA's legislative and policy initiatives.
- Organizing and participating in NCPTA's annual legislative trip to Washington, D.C.
- Organizing all legislative events and activities.
- Working with other organizations to seek broad based support for all public transportation initiatives.
- Disseminating information to membership including legislative updates and alerts.
- Preparation of legislative materials for advocacy purposes.
- Recommending candidates to the NCPTA Board for Legislator of the Year Award(s).
- Monitoring federal legislation, funding and policy initiatives that affect public transportation systems in North Carolina.
- Serving as a liaison to the Board of Transportation.
The Legislative Committee meets as needed or, at least, twice a year.
