Public invited to shape the future of transportation in the Piedmont Triad
— from Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation
Piedmont Triad N.C., April 15, 2010 ― The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) wants to hear what the communities of the Piedmont Triad think about the future of transportation in the region. PART has officially kicked-off the public comment period for its regional transit planning process by launching a new project website and online survey.
“To be a place of distinction along the east coast we must focus our region on creating a multi-modal transportation system. Transit is a key piece to that system.” Brent McKinney, PART Executive Director.
PART is coordinating with nine other transit systems and 10 counties to develop a Regional Transit Development Plan (RTDP) to address planned growth and congestion in our region. The RTDP will include several related studies: a transit development plan, a strategic corridors plan and financial plans, which will serve as a blueprint for regional transit efforts over the next 10 to 15 years.
PART has been meeting with stakeholders from across the region including community groups, transportation agencies and planners to identify transportation needs, opportunities and challenges. Now PART is seeking input from commuters, businesses and residents to better understand the region’s vision for the future.
“Since a robust transit system will serve the community, we must first hear from the people in the community.” Mark Kirstner, PART Transportation Planner.
There are a variety of ways for the public to get involved, including staying up-to-date through the project website and providing comments using the online questionnaire. This summer the public will get an opportunity to review and comment on the planning document known as the Regional Transit Development Plan or RTDP. Public comments will be accepted through June 30th.
